Will it be Google v/s Apple v/s Microsoft??
As Eric Schimidt resigns from his position as Apple board member which was very expected (because of the apparent conflict of interest problem), it is now speculated that there will be a tech war between three technology giants Apple, Google, Microsoft.
While everyone is talking about Google v/s Microsoft tech war, no one is even posting about how Apple will react. Apple will definitely try to defend its market share. it may release scaled down version of Mac OS for free and then offer an option to upgrade it for certain amount.
Challenges Google Chrome OS may face:
Google Chrome OS may be the most ambitious project of Google so far. The entire open source community is awaiting for the release of Chrome OS. But odds are stacked against this new free Operating System. Here is an attempt to list the challenges that Chrome OS may face:
- 1. Chrome OS should achieve what linux failed :- COmpatibility, Usability, Unfamiliarity.
- 2. Most of the desktop users are now used-to-windows guys. How would Google attract those users.
- 3. Google says it will store the entire data on its own cloud. Can Google afford the cost of such huge data centers if the entire world starts using the cloud.
- 4. How Google guarantees the availability of the data all the time?
- Well...these questions are still unanswered. Lets wait and see it yourself.
Competition will bring down the price:
Competition for anything have always brought down the prices. This is a good sign for end users. Now that two giants (Google n MSFT) are competing for the dominance in OS market ( rather I would say Google is trying to overpower MSFT in OS market :) ).
Google is making their Chrome OS available for absolutely nothing. Users will get it free and they will get the source code as well. Google is a company that has muscles and a brand recognition so they will deliver the finest product.
I would be very interesting to see how Microsoft reacts to this move by Google. They will obviously bring down the Windows price and may release the scaled down version with endless upgrade options :).
